The moorish village of Valor perches on the foothills of the Sierra Nevada gazing out over the valley and the market town of Ugijar.An unspoilt traditional Spanish village popular with spanish tourists. Situated two hours from Granada and one hour from the coast, culture, countryside, beaches and skiing are all within easy reach.
population of just under 1000, the village has 9 bars all of which serve
tapas and a couple of which offer a full menu. There are also 2 small
supermarkets, one with it's
own bakery, which sell all essentional shopping
items including fresh meat, fruit and veg. The travelling market visits on
the 4th and 19th of every month with a few stalls selling clothing, plants,
nuts & olives etc. For a wider range of shops and a bustling twice
monthly market (5th and 20th), the town of Ugijar
is just 10 kilometers away. The village pool
is open during the months of July and August and there are numerous fiestas
throughout the year, the largest of these being Moors and Christians in
September when the villagers re-enact the taking of the Alhambra complete
with horses and musket fire.
Popular with Spanish tourists but as yet relatively undiscovered by other nationalities, Valor is an extremely friendly pueblo blanco and an ideal place to observe and enjoy the traditional Spanish way of life.
